ECCM-ECFD Conferences since 1994

The ECCOMAS Conference on Computational Solid and Structural Mechanics (ECCM) and the ECCOMAS Conference on Computational Fluid Dynamics (ECFD), together with the ECCOMAS Congress, constitute the three main scientific events of ECCOMAS organized every four years, on even years, which attract approximately 5000 participants in total.

The previous ECCOMAS Conferences on Computational Solids, Structures and Coupled Problems in Engineering (ECCM) were held in Munich, Germany (1999), Cracow, Poland (2001), Lisbon, Portugal (2006) and in Paris, France (2010).

The previous ECCOMAS Conferences on Computational Fluid Dynamics (ECFD) were held in Stuttgart, Germany (1994), in Athens, Greece (1998), in Swansea, Wales, United Kingdom (2001), in Egmond aan Zee, The Netherlands (2006) and in Lisbon, Portugal (2010).

ECCM V and ECFD VI Conferences were jointly organized in Barcelona, Spain, on 20 – 25 July 2014.

To celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the European Community on Computational Methods in Applied Sciences (ECCOMAS), the 6th European Conference on Computational Mechanics (Solids, Structures and Coupled Problems) (ECCM 6) and the 7th European Conference on Computational Fluid Dynamics (ECFD 7) was jointly organized in Glasgow, UK on 11 -15 June 2018.

Rules & Conditions

Frequency . Both ECCM and ECFD series are organized in a four year cycle.

Proposals . At least the following items must be included:

  • Conference Chairperson(s)
  • Organizing Committee
  • Supporting Organizations
  • Date and venue of the Conferences and facilities of the conference rooms (distance to main hotels, equipment, etc.)
  • Advantages of organizing the Conference at the proposed venue
  • Tourist interests and hotel facilities
  • Conference budget

The Selection Committee The proposals will be evaluated by the Managing Board of ECCOMAS. If necessary, a short list of selected candidates will be requested to present their proposals in person during the following Managing Board meeting.

Contribution  For each conference, ECFD and ECCM, €20,000 have to be paid to ECCOMAS. In return, a financial support of € 10,000 for ECCOMAS scholarships will be provided for each conference.

Rules for nomination and selection of Plenary and Semi-Plenary Lecturers on Congresses and Conferences  One half of the Plenary and Semi-plenary speakers are disposed by the MB and one half by the local organizers of an ECCOMAS congress or conference. For congresses or conferences jointly organized with other associations, e.g. WCCM, corresponding rules have to be applied.

For the selection of speakers nominated by the MB, an ad-hoc Voting Committee (VC) will be appointed by the MB. The VC consists of 5 representatives selected by the MB, which are not eligible to be candidates for a plenary or semi-plenary speaker. The VC collects nominations from the core groups of the Technical Committees and makes the final decision. The VC informs core groups and MB on its decision.

The MB can provide guidelines regarding the selection criteria, e.g. scientific field, quality, geographical region, age (involvement of young scientists), gender, etc., but the MB should not make pre-decisions.

If the nominations of the core groups do not reflect a sufficient representation of the underlying criteria, the VC is eligible to add further candidates in consultation with the core groups of the Technical Committees.
